Casa de Campo becoming known around the world as a premier polo destination

Last year Casa de Campo hosted the Polo Challenge RD, the first ever high-handicap polo series ever played in the Dominican Republic. The event was registered in the World Polo Tour, and it was a huge success with Lechuza Caracas coming out on top as the champions at the Caribbean Open Finals. Casa de Campo was chosen (along with Los Establos in Cap Cana) to host the matches not only because the polo grounds here are some of the best in the Caribbean, but because the resort is fast becoming known around the world as a premier polo destination.

Directed by Argentinian-born professional polo player Fernando Arata, the Polo Club at Casa de Campo boasts not one, but three 300-yard playing fields where many national and international tournaments take place, as well as a practice field where players can polish their game. Moreover, Casa de Campo has the largest string of polo ponies owned by one brand, and guests are welcome to hire ponies for stick and ball matches.

For those who have never played polo before, or for those who know how to play but want to brush up on their skills, the Polo Club at Casa de Campo offers group and private polo lessons for all levels year round. You can start off with an assistant instructor who will provide you with gear, teach you the rules and get you out on the field, and then once you have the basics down, you can move on to lessons with a polo professional to learn new tricks and tips that will help you take your game to the next level.

Polo is also a great way for children to learn teamwork and hand-eye coordination and get some exercise out in the fresh air. During the summers, Casa de Campo offers polo clinics for kids every Sunday from 9am to 11am with discounts for groups with three or more children. Parents can also sign up their little ones for group or one-on-one polo lessons at the equestrian center any time of year, as well as Western and English style riding classes and jumping and rodeo trick sessions.

Finally, for those who prefer to take in their polo chukkas from the sidelines rather than in the saddle, regular polo matches take place between the months of November to April. Casa de Campo will also host the second season of the Polo Challenge where you can watch top players like Juan Martin Nero, Adolfo Cambiaso and David Sterling make history on the fields and put the Dominican Republic on the map as one of the world’s most sought-after polo destinations.
